I was reading an article recently that discussed the difference between being rich and being wealthy. At first glance, most people think they’re the same thing. They’re not.

Being rich is having money.

Being wealthy is having control over your time.

That distinction hit me hard because I’ve experienced both sides of it.

Growing up in Newark, New Jersey, there were times when we didn’t have much. I remember watching my mother do everything she could to keep food on the table. Back then, I thought money was the answer to every problem.

As I got older and started making money, I chased income. Like many entrepreneurs, I believed the more deals I did, the more successful I became. I flipped houses, started businesses, worked long hours, and built multiple income streams.

On paper, I looked successful.

But success and freedom are not always the same thing.

The truth is that you can earn a lot of money and still be trapped. Trapped by your business. Trapped by your expenses. Trapped by the lifestyle you’ve created. Trapped by the need to keep producing every single day just to maintain it all.

I’ve met people who make seven figures a year but can’t take a week off.

I’ve also met investors who make a fraction of that income yet have complete control over their schedule, their travel, their family time, and their life.

Who is truly wealthier?

Morgan Housel said it best when he wrote that wealth is “the ability to do what you want, when you want, with who you want, for as long as you want.”

That’s the highest dividend in finance.

Today, when I talk to investors, I rarely start the conversation with returns. I start with freedom.

Can your investments continue working if you decide not to?

Can you spend a month with your family without worrying about income?

Can you focus on your health, your faith, your children, or your purpose because your assets are producing cash flow?

Those are wealth questions.

The reason I became so passionate about real estate wasn’t because of the buildings. It was because I saw what properly structured assets could do for a person’s life. A well-managed investment property can generate income while you’re sleeping. A portfolio of assets can create options. Options create freedom.

And freedom creates wealth.

One of the biggest mistakes I see high-income professionals make is assuming their paycheck is wealth. A paycheck is income. Wealth is what remains after you stop working.

That’s why at NNG Capital Fund we focus on acquiring and improving real assets that have the potential to generate long-term cash flow and appreciation. The goal isn’t simply to accumulate more properties. The goal is to help investors move closer to financial freedom and time freedom.

Because at the end of the day, nobody wishes they had spent more time at the office.

They wish they had more time with their family.

More time pursuing their purpose.

More time enjoying the life they worked so hard to build.

Rich pays the bills.

Wealth buys back your time.

And time is the one asset none of us can ever get more of.
